In 2021, through Government Regulation Number 108, Brawijaya University underwent a change in status from a Public Service Agency (BLU) to a PTN-BH. It had consequences for the management of higher education. UB currently has 18 faculties with 179 Study Programs (PS), and approximately 2205 active lecturers with diverse scientific backgrounds.
The diversity presents significant potential for UB to advance science widely when managed effectively. Conversely, improper management may lead to limitations in achieving UB’s vision due to resource inefficiency.
To foster diverse transdisciplinary and multidisciplinary performance, UB proposed a budget to the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research and Technology, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for the 2024 Fiscal Year to fund activities for the State University Revitalization Program (PR-PTN). The chosen theme was Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology for Nature & Humanity. Due to AI and DT, it is expected that they can provide opportunities for UB to manage the diversity of research and innovation.
Opportunity to develop Revenue Generating Activity
The PTNBH status provides UB with the opportunity to develop Revenue Generating Activity (RGA). Discussions on the development of AI & DT for Nature & Humanity tied to RGA aimed to optimize the productivity and efficiency of all UB resources. The excellence of AI & DT will have a sustainable impact on the development of nature and the environment.
There were four strategies to realize the direction of AI and DT development at UB in 2024, namely: 1) Strengthening AI & DT-Based Governance Performance, 2) Strengthening the Capacity of Lecturers and Education Personnel Based on AI & DT, 3) Increasing UB’s Reputation in Supporting 4 KST Performance Development Themes, and 4) Downstreaming and Commercialization of AI & DT Innovation for Nature and Humanity.
These strategies were divided into 13 programs as efforts to implement the PTN revitalization program with target indicators including IKU 1-7 and IKK 5-6 as well as RGA.
