Workshop on the Strategy to Have Intellectual Property Rights (Patents and Copyright)

Based on the XI Edition of Guideline for Research and Community Services at Higher Education established by Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, researchers were required to produce outputs which can be utilized to support the capacity of higher education. One of the required output was intellectual property rights such as patents and copyright. Therefore, Institute of Research and Community Services – University of Brawijaya (LPPM UB) in supporting the requirement held a Workshop: The Strategy to Have Intellectual Property Rights (Patents and Copyright) on Wednesday, September 13th, 2017 at Sahid Montana 2 Hotel, Malang.

The workshop was opened by Secretary of LPPM UB, Dr. Maftuch. In his speech, he stated that this year is a change transition for output based research. Therefore, he explained, researchers have to pay attention to the number of targeted research outputs stated in their contracts including patent and copyrights. Head of Research Division, Prof. Widodo, as a national reviewer, he stated that the minimal outputs achieved by researchers are one publication and one intellectual property right.

In supporting the obligation to achieve the output, Head of Brawijaya University Intellectual Property Centre, Dr. Purwadi, in presenting his materials stated that the Centre is ready for helping the researchers in getting patent and copyright. So far, he added, the Centre actively supports the program by coming to some researchers who have the potential of having intellectual property. Besides, the supporting materials of intellectual property were presented by Prof. Muh. Nurhuda with the topic: “The Strategy to get and sell patent products” and Elok Waziroh, MSi with the topic: “The Structure of Patent Manuscript”.

This workshop hopefully could motivate the lecturers to actively write patent and improve commercialization. Further, hopefully, the achievement of Brawijaya University in getting the National Award of Intellectual Property in 2015 could be reached again.
